There’s Nothing Boring About Boron!

What do you know about boron? For many of us, boron is an element that we vaguely remember from GCSE chemistry lessons (anyone remember where it sits on the periodic table of elements?!).

But as well as being an element that occurs naturally in the environment, boron is a trace mineral that’s found in certain foods. Boron is found naturally in leafy green vegetables like kale and spinach, plus grains, prunes, raisins, noncitrus fruits, and nuts. The more of these foods that we eat, the more boron we’ll be consuming.

Boron isn’t an essential nutrient, as it doesn’t have a specific role in the human body. This means that it’s not essential that we consume it. That said, boron supplements are very popular due to a few health benefits of taking them regularly.

Boron and bone strength

The most well-understood link to the benefits of boron supplements is that of our bone health. Studies suggest that boron supplementation can significantly influence the levels of minerals that affect bone density. This means that boron supplements have the potential to increase the mineral bone density in humans, an effect which in turn increases bone strength.

Osteoarthritis is a painful condition that results in joint and bone pain and weak bones. Studies support the bone-strengthening effects of boron supplements by demonstrating its ability to significantly improve the pain and discomfort of osteoarthritis. It’s thought that as well as influencing bone mineral density, boron can reduce the inflammatory markers that make osteoarthritis pain worse.

What’s more, boron has also been found to have a positive effect on vitamin D levels. Vitamin D is essential for good bone health, and it’s thought that boron helps to increase the bone-strengthening effects of vitamin D, hence the inclusion of both boron and vitamin D in our all-natural supplement, Testoraise.

Reaching our exercise targets and goals isn’t just dependent on strong muscles and good cardiovascular fitness. Having strong, healthy bones is also crucial for athleticism, so we can see how boron supplements can be useful.

But not only have studies found that boron can help bone strength. Researchers have also discovered that boron can have a beneficial effect on our testosterone levels, too.

Giving testosterone a boron boost

In 2015, researchers looked at numerous previous studies to determine whether the testosterone boosting qualities of boron were valid. And it turns out, they are

Subjects given a daily 6mg dose of boron (which, incidentally, is the dose in Testoraise) had increased their levels of free testosterone (the most biologically active form of testosterone) by almost 25%. Wow!

Researchers also found that boron supplements allow more free testosterone to bind with proteins that are present in the blood. This makes free testosterone more ‘bioavailable’ and has an even bigger benefit as we age.

There is also currently speculation that since boron is capable of increasing levels of free testosterone, it could also be useful in men that experience erectile dysfunction that’s related to low testosterone levels.

Reaching your goals with Testoraise

Adding boron to Testoraise was an obvious addition since it can so positively affect testosterone levels. Boosted testosterone is repeatedly shown to improve athletic function and performance. So if you’re looking to improve yours, look no further than Testoraise!

(And by the way, boron sits next to carbon on the periodic table. It has the chemical symbol ‘B’, an atomic number of 5 and is known as a metalloid as it has both metallic and non-metallic properties. In case you were wondering…)
