The Testosterone-Boosting Benefits of D-Aspartic Acid

The Testosterone-Boosting Benefits of D-Aspartic Acid

If you’re familiar with the world of sports nutrition supplements, then you’ll know all about amino acids. Amino acids are the ‘building blocks’ of protein, and we need protein to help build lean muscle mass and for energy. Not only that, but amino acids are also essential for the production of neurotransmitters (the chemical messages sent to and from our brains) and certain hormones.

There are twenty amino acids, nine of them are considered ‘essential’ since it’s essential that we eat them as the body cannot manufacture them. The rest are ‘non-essential’ meaning that, even though they’re present in many foods, especially animal-based foods, we don’t need to eat them as the body can manufacture them itself.

That said, if we’re training and exercising hard, then we can benefit from additional amino acids, of both kinds since they’re so beneficial for energy production and layering on lean muscle mass.

One non-essential amino acid, however, D-aspartic acid, has benefits beyond that of powering our workouts and helping our body composition.

D-aspartic acid is a type of amino acid that helps to promote testosterone production. And to understand why, we need a little chemistry lesson… (I’ll be quick, so bear with me.)

What is D-aspartic acid?

Most amino acids, whether essential or non-essential, exist in two different forms. These two forms are known as ‘L’ and ‘D’. They are chemically the same but are mirror images of each other and have different roles.

For example, L-aspartic acid is used by the body to build proteins. Its mirror image D-aspartic acid is used to manufacture and release hormones. Specifically, D-aspartic acid helps to release chemical signals from the brain to increase testosterone production and release it from the testicles where it’s made.

So that’s precisely why we added it to our testosterone boosting supplement, Testoraise.

What does science say about D-aspartic acid and testosterone?

As ever, the decision to use this ingredient was based on robust scientific evidence. But don’t just take my word for it. The science speaks for itself.

One study looked at the effects of D-aspartic acid supplementation on healthy adult males. They found that the large majority of those tested achieved an average testosterone blood level increase of 42%, which is pretty impressive, especially as this was after only 12 days of supplementation!

In 2017, researchers looked at the results of 23 studies performed on men taking D-aspartic acid supplements. They concluded that D-aspartic acid “can be used as a testosterone booster for infertile men, and by athletes to increase muscle mass and strength”.

Great news if you have low testosterone, but what are the effects on muscle mass and strength?

Higher levels of testosterone are consistently associated with increased bone strength and increased muscle mass and strength. Therefore, taking a testosterone booster such as Testoraise will have a positive impact on your power and performance as well as your testosterone levels.

It’s also known that boosted testosterone levels help to improve our mood and our sex drive and can help men who have erectile dysfunction that’s caused by low testosterone levels. So a testosterone booster can help our strength and performance in the bedroom, too.

Boosting your drive with Testoraise

Testoraise contains D-aspartic acid as well as vitamins and minerals known to help support testosterone levels. We’ve also added the ancient herbs maca, fenugreek and ashwagandha, that have been used by our forebears for millennia to increase stamina and strength.
